EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS
Shaare Zedek offers a unique way to learn our sacred texts with Rebbetzin Elizabeth Bright. “Elizabeth’s Torah Class” held on Wednesday mornings for the last 15 years (2002-Present) is a Montreal wide community class housed in the Ruth Karpman Library at Shaare Zedek Congregation. Everyone is welcome in the class no matter his or her background, synagogue affiliation, age or gender. Elizabeth’s Torah class is a lively and passionate in-depth study using traditional commentaries to explore Judaism and cultures of the Biblical periods. The class started with ten individuals studying the Five Books of Moses and continued over the years through the completion of the whole Tanakah, graduating over 25 people. Today Elizabeth’s Torah Class continues with more studies of the History of the Jewish People and the Prophetic Writings.
All are welcome! Classes are ongoing on Wednesdays at 10 a.m. - 11 a.m. via zoom

Elizabeth Bright was recognized as the local hero she is everyday for so many. Elizabeth and all the Bright's continue to make each day that much brighter, not only during these unprecedented times, but each and every day. Thank you!
"She and her adult children, with the support of her husband Rabbi Alan Bright of Shaare Zedek Congregation, delivered groceries, pet supplies and needed pharmaceutical products to some six families in confinement yesterday. It was a typical day of deliveries, bringing food, friendship and comfort. Mrs. Bright has also transformed her 17-year practice of outreach classes on the Tanakh, or the ‘Hebrew Bible’ to ‘Zoom’ distance sessions at this crucial time. She reminds me that the people she is reaching out to “…think I’m doing it for them; I’m doing it for me.” Spoken like a true hero! Today, in her name and that of so many in faith communities who are reaching out to help, Mitch Garber donates $500 to Hatzoloh Montreal - DW Division, a volunteer emergency medical-assistance service of Montreal’s Hasidic community."
