Cantor Boaz Davidoff
Cantor Boaz is no stranger to Shaare Zedek, having visited us many years ago as our guest Cantor for the High Holy Days. He is a well versed Cantor with many additional talents; as a Lyric Tenor, recording artist, concert performer, musician, composer and choir director. As a musician, he is comfortable with many instruments, including Guitar, Drums and Percussions.
Boaz holds a B.A. in Musical Education and a M.A in musicology. He is a graduate of TACI (Tel Aviv Cantorial Institute).
Prior to becoming a Cantor, Boaz performed regularly in concerts and festivals around Israel and abroad as a lyric tenor soloist, with Israel’s leading choirs and orchestras. He sang Renaissance, Baroque, oratorio, opera and world music along with his own compositions.
Boaz credits a major impact in his life that pre-empted his return to Jewish origins and discovered the "Wonderful Light of Emunah (faith)". His journey then took him to the world of Cantorial and Jewish soul music. Boaz registered to TACI (Tel Aviv Cantorial Institute) and passionately began to study, under the direction of maestro and Cantor Naphtali Herstik. Two years into his studying – during a cantorial tour of TACI in North America - Boaz was recruited to Shaare Zion Congregation and became their full time Cantor. It was in Montreal, that Boaz completed his Cantorial studies under maestro and Cantor Arye Subar.
During his six year tenure as Cantor at Shaare Zion, Boaz recorded two Jewish Soulful music cd’s, broadcasted a program on the Montreal Jewish radio station– “Radio Shalom”, and took part in many concerts as a soloist. After his time in Montreal, Boaz and his family returned to Israel.
