In October 2001, Irwin joined the professional staff of Shaare Zedek Congregation as Executive Director. His previous experience in synagogue volunteer leadership included a year on a Board of Directors and fifteen years on an Executive Committee.
Irwin works closely with the various synagogue committees in following the policies established by the Board of Directors and administering the day to day affairs of the Congregation.
So that the daily, shabbat, festival and High Holy Day religious services and associated festivities are spiritually meaningful and personally enjoyable, Irwin is both a liaison and facilitator in working closely with the clergy and the Religious Services Committee.
The scheduling and coordination of life cycle events’ celebrations ie. b’nei mitzvah, weddings, baby namings, briss, special anniversaries and birthdays is the responsibility of the Executive Director. We proudly host the largest number of b’nei mitzvah celebrations on an annual basis.
The administrative staff and maintenance staff are comprised of dedicated and industrious individuals, who share a close working relationship with the Executive Director.
Irwin is always readily available to respond to queries from both member and non-member families.

Administrative assistant to Rabbi Bright since January 2003. Responsible for producing the Shabbat flyers, Reflections, ads, promotional materials and various other graphic design projects. Administrative duties include: scheduling appointments, unveilings, weddings, b’nai mitzvah group, b’nai mitzvah contracts. Previous achievements include: B Comm., retail buyer, graphic design in ladies clothing.

I have been part of the Shaare Zedek family since January 2007. As part of the office staff, my main responsibilities are the accounts payable and payroll for the Synagogue, as well as assisting in various activities in the Synagogue.
I am married, with two grown children, and have the great pleasure of enjoying five grandchildren.

Paula Sacks – Works in the synagogue office. Position is Accounts Receivable. Various duties include cemetery flowers, High Holy Day seating, sending Yahrzeit and donation notices.

Introducing SZC’s new Youth Director
The Board of Directors of Shaare Zedek Congregation is excited to announce the addition to its leadership team of Eric Cohen, as Youth Director. Eric’s responsibilities will include developing and implementing Judaic and social programming for our children and youth; facilitating weekly structured programs for our children and youth including, but not limited to, Shabbat morning ; cultivating an environment fostering Jewish identity and values for our children and youth; and developing and coordinating the execution of special projects. Eric’s experience includes his current position as teacher at Akiva School, assistant spiritual leader during the High Holy Days at the Annex Shul in Toronto and Jewish life coordinator at Camp Massad. Born on March 01, 1964 in San Salvador capital city of El Salvador. Immigrated to Canada in 1987 and became a Canadian Citizen in 1991. Married to Chantal Poirier since 1993 and together have 2 wonderful children, Audrey 15 and Yann 11 years old.
Favorite pastime: watching major league soccer as well as hockey and golf.
