Message from the President
Dear Fellow Members:
As we look forward to Chanukah, a season of light and hope and togetherness, it is very appropriate that this holiday also signals the beginning of major renovations at Shaare Zedek.
As I’m sure you’re aware by now, the generosity of several of our member families will result in a rather extensive “new look” to our Synagogue, i.e. our banquet hall, library, media centre area, and relocation of our offices. Considerable energy has gone into these plans and I have no doubt that you will be extremely impressed with the results.
In the end though, it’s what will happen within our building that truly matters.
The Festival of Chanukah is one of the first struggles that took place for freedom of religion. Unfortunately today, when it’s relatively easy to be observant and worship, it appears that an increasing number of us are not quite so anxious to take advantage of this. Our Services, Holiday Celebrations, Adult Education lectures, Youth Activities (we are very close to hiring a Youth Director), can all contribute to Shaare Zedek being a synagogue that makes a difference in our lives.
Let’s use the lights of Chanukah as an opportunity to increase our involvement and participation and reach out to others to become more involved.
May the Festival of Chanukah illuminate our lives and usher in a renewed commitment to synagogue life.
Herb Finkelberg
President
